There's never been a better time to be a miniature wargamer...and yet, finding great games has never been more difficult. In the age of self publishing and internet distribution, thousands of game systems jockey for our limited attention and hobby time. Hundreds of those games are shared freely by generous authors and publishers. Some have become household names, while most quietly fade into obscurity thanks to dead blogs, broken links, or the constant churn of new games being released every week. We are truly spoiled for choice as wargamers, and that can make excellent free games difficult to discover.
The Wargame Library was created to preserve and celebrate outstanding free wargames, scenarios, and magazines. Our goal is simple: to build a curated collection of the best free historical miniature wargames and make them easy to find, fun to explore, and always available for instant download. Just browse, download with one click, and play. To make that possible, we reached out to dozens of authors and publishers for their permission to host their work. At least 90% of the authors we contacted over the last year said "yes" and were very gracious about sharing their work with a wider audience. We always credit those authors and link to their own blogs, webpages, or preferred accounts.
Like any proper library, this collection is never truly finished. We hope new acquisitions will continue to arrive, because there are still many treasures waiting to be rediscovered. Maybe you want to help volunteer and join that treasure hunt?
JOIN THE STAFF
Our all-volunteer library staff hunts for great free games, playtests and reviews them, interviews authors, and contacts publishers for hosting permission. We're also looking to expand our links and resources for the games currently in the library, adding as much useful material as we can. We have a private Discord server where volunteers can chat, compare notes, and evaluate possible additions. As a first-time volunteer you'll become an Archivist. If you're an especially active contributor, you'll earn the title of Curator. If you'd like to get involved, email littlewarstv@gmail.com.
MONETIZATION
As you browse the library shelves here, you may notice a distinct lack of distracting banner ads or pop ups. We have no ads and we aren't interested in collecting your email for future marketing lists. The Wargame Library is a public community project with no commercial intent. The generous patrons of Little Wars TV helped make this ambitious project possible. While Little Wars TV helped launch this library, it has been established as an independent website that can live on indefinitely as a free, evergreen resource.
So whether you're a veteran gamer, a newcomer assembling your first army, or simply someone searching for a game to try with friends, we're glad you've stopped by! Pull up a chair. Browse the stacks and make yourself at home. We hope you'll keep coming back to check for new free games as they are added.
