canvas Eagles

LIBRARIAN'S SUMMARY

Canvas Eagles is one of the great freeware classics of World War I aerial wargaming--a multiplayer dogfighting game descended from GDW’s Blue Max that captures the swirling chaos of First World War air combat. Played on a hex mat, each player controls a single aircraft and secretly plots maneuvers before all planes move simultaneously, creating tense moments of prediction, positioning, and sudden disaster as fragile biplanes wheel across the sky searching for firing opportunities. Most of the game lives on the maneuver charts and aircraft data cards rather than in dense rulebooks, making it easy to learn. Its free online distribution and low barrier to entry helped make it a gateway game for an entire generation of WWI air combat enthusiasts. The official game website includes many essential downloads, including numerous aircraft charts, token sheets, play aides, and custom markers.
